Feel-the-Beat: Music Vest
Spring 2003
Overview

The Feel-The-Beat Music Vest plays beats and rhythms composed of vibrations rather than audible sounds. It uses vibro-tactile technology (a series of vibrating motors and programming equipment) to make varied levels and layers of pressure to simulate a "sense" of music.

Initially, Feel-The-Beat was developed to make music available to people with hearing disabilities. But, through the course of the project, this alternate music experience was applied to a wider audience.

* Prototype was selected to represent Carnegie Mellon University's Wearable Group at the SIGGRAPH 2004 CyberFashion Show.
